Privacy Policy

Last updated: November 7, 2026

This Privacy Policy explains what information outsideyears.com (“Outside Years”, “we”, “us”) collects when you visit the site and how it is used.

Information we collect

  • Information you send us. If you contact us by email, we receive your email address and whatever you choose to include in your message. We use it only to reply.
  • Technical information. Like most websites, our hosting provider and security tools automatically process technical data such as your IP address, browser type and the pages you request. This is used to deliver the site, keep it secure and prevent abuse.
  • Cookies. The site may set cookies needed for it to work correctly (for example, caching and security). Third-party services described below may also set cookies.

Email sign-ups from our tools

What we collect. Some tools, such as our kids’ weather layering calculator, let you unlock a printable version of your result by entering your email address. We store your email address, the date you submitted it, which tool you used, a record of the consent you gave and whether you separately chose to receive our newsletter. We do not store the answers you enter into the tool (such as your child’s age or your local conditions); those stay in your browser.

Why. To give you the printable result you asked for. We send newsletters (occasional outdoor guides for families) only if you checked the separate, optional newsletter box; unlocking a printable result never signs you up. We do not sell or rent your email address.

Legal basis. Your consent: one checkbox for storing your email to provide the printable result, and a separate optional checkbox for the newsletter. You can withdraw it at any time; this does not affect anything we did before you withdrew it.

Where it is stored and who processes it. Email addresses are stored in our website’s database on our hosting provider’s servers (Hostinger). If we later move our list to an email service provider to send newsletters, we will update this policy before doing so and name that provider here.

How long we keep it. Until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete it. If we stop sending emails altogether, we will delete the list.

Your rights. You can ask us to access, correct or delete your email address, or to stop emailing you, by writing to us through our Contact page. Every email we send will include an unsubscribe option. Our tools are meant for adults; please do not submit a child’s email address.

Cookies

Strictly necessary. We only use cookies and similar browser storage that the site needs to work: caching and security tools, the session of logged-in site administrators, and a small “oy_consent” entry that remembers your cookie choice for up to 180 days. These do not require consent.

Analytics and advertising. We do not currently use analytics or advertising cookies. If we add Google Analytics in the future, it will stay off by default (using Google Consent Mode) and will only load after you click “Accept” in our cookie banner. “Reject” is always available and the site works the same either way. You can change your choice at any time with the “Cookie settings” link at the bottom of every page.

Amazon. Our affiliate links do not set cookies on outsideyears.com. When you click one and arrive on Amazon, Amazon may set its own cookies under its own privacy notice.

Third-party services

  • Amazon Associates. When you click an Amazon link, Amazon may set cookies to attribute your purchase to us. Amazon’s handling of your data is governed by the Amazon Privacy Notice.
  • Hosting and security. The site is hosted by Hostinger and protected by Wordfence, which process technical data to keep the site available and secure.
  • Analytics. We may use privacy-respecting analytics, such as Google Search Console, to understand which pages people find useful. These tools report aggregated information.

If we add advertising (such as Google AdSense) or new analytics in the future, we will update this policy before doing so.

Children’s privacy

Outside Years is written for parents and adults. The site is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.

Your choices and rights

You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. Depending on where you live (for example, in the European Union, the United Kingdom or certain U.S. states), you may have the right to access, correct or delete personal information we hold about you. To make a request, contact us using the details on our Contact page.

Data retention

We keep emails only as long as needed to respond and for reasonable record-keeping. Technical logs are kept by our hosting and security providers according to their own retention schedules.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The date at the top shows when it was last revised.
